A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HUBBARD COUNTY!
Jimmy Hansen is proud to announce that, when elected Hubbard County Sheriff, he has selected Brian Halbasch to serve as his Chief Deputy!
Brian brings valuable leadership experience and extensive knowledge of the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office. He began his service to our county as a Jailer and Dispatcher before advancing through several roles, including Boat and Water Deputy, Transport Deputy, Deputy Sheriff, and Emergency Manager.
Throughout his service, Brian responded to calls while also helping coordinate emergency preparedness and hazard-mitigation planning. He worked alongside local, regional, state, and federal partners to strengthen Hubbard County’s ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies.
His work included helping bring two tornado safe rooms to Camp Wilderness—facilities capable of protecting hundreds of campers and community members during severe weather. Brian’s leadership and dedication earned him recognition as Minnesota’s 2019 Emergency Manager of the Year.
This is more than the selection of a Chief Deputy. It is the beginning of a strong leadership team that understands Hubbard County, values collaboration, and is prepared to serve our communities from day one.
Brian is also a United States Air Force veteran and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration, providing a strong foundation for his leadership within the Sheriff’s Office.
Jimmy and Brian share a commitment to experience, accountability, strong relationships, and serving every corner of Hubbard County with Professionalism with Compassion.

Community policing is a critical part of that approach. Building trust requires visibility, accessibility, and relationships — not just enforcement. As Hubbard County Sheriff, I will encourage proactive engagement between deputies and the communities they serve through outreach, school involvement, local events, & consistent presence throughout the county. When citizens know their deputies and deputies know their communities, we create partnerships that prevent crime, improve communication, & strengthen public safety across Hubbard County while working together.
Our Community
As your Hubbard County Sheriff, I will continue working to keep drugs and crime out of Hubbard County, just as I have done in my own community. Over the past 26 years, I have developed partnerships & resources across multiple states working alongside local law enforcement partners and other collaborating agencies & offices. Through these partnerships, I have heard & witnessed many success stories — individuals who have turned their lives around, families who have been reunited, & young people who chose a different path because someone took the time to intervene & listen. Those successes reinforce my belief that enforcement alone is not enough; prevention, partnership, outreach, & collaboration are critical components in reducing all aspects within law enforcement.
